Patrons

By using the library card to borrow items from the library, borrowers agree to be responsible for those items, including replacement charges for lost or damaged items and overdue fines that may arise from returning or renewing the items after the due date.

  • The Authorization to Register form, issued by the Admissions office, is proof of registration.
  • Students must bring their student ID and new college email address to the library to register for library privileges.
  • If a student does not have their new college email address, they are encouraged to enter this contact information in their library account through the “Renew Books” login.

  • For students enrolled in short-term programs or courses (e.g. trades, continuing education, etc.), the Start and End Dates applied to library accounts are determined by the dates indicated in the students’ Banner accounts.
  • For student enrolled in full-semestered programs, the Start Dates applied to library accounts are September 1st, January 1st, May 1st, and July 1st.
  • For student enrolled in full-semestered programs, the Expiry Dates applied to library accounts are December 24th, April 30th, June 30th, and August 31st.
  • During the summer months (June-August) students with a current student ID proving that they are registered to start classes in the Fall may purchase a partial Public Patron card for $25.00.  Other policies related to Public Patrons (see below) also apply during this time.

YC Employees

  • Faculty and Staff use their employee ID card as a library card.
  • This card is usually issued by the College Staff facilitating the hiring of the employee.  See the webpage Table Perm/Term vs. Adjunct Library Cards for more details.
  • Since sometimes Adjunct Faculty (Sessional instructors, Curriculum Developers, etc.) are unsure of this process, a webpage has been written to describe this process in greater detail. See the FAQ page for Adjunct Faculty.

Public patrons

  • Adult Yukon residents may purchase a public patron card, valid for one year, for a fee of $50.00.
  • Yukon residents are also reminded that they can request interlibrary loans from the YC Library through their local branch of the Yukon Public Libraries system at no charge.
  • Public Patrons may borrow up to 5 circulating items at a time.
  • Public Patrons cannot place Hold Requests.
  • Public Patrons cannot borrow AV equipment.
  • Purchasing a Public Patron card does not include the privilege of off-campus access to the databases.  See Database Access for the Public for more information.

Students from other institutions living, researching, and studying in the Yukon.

  • Such students should contact the Yukon Research Centre to arrange for the provision of a Visiting Researcher Library Card.
  • However, not all Library services are available to holders of this card.  Services such as borrowing A-V equipment and interlibrary loans are granted on a case-by-case basis.
  • We ask such patrons to keep in mind is that we are a very small institution and you will likely find that your home institution has far more materials suited to your studies, something to consider when it comes to interlibrary loans. YC Library Staff would be happy to help you negotiate your home institution’s library’s website to maximize your usage of the services you are entitled to as a student at that institution.
  • If this type of patron want to reward us for generously granting this service to them, we would warmly welcome a copy of their thesis or dissertation.
  • Such publications have outstanding bibliographies, are often impossible to interlibrary loan, can be expensive to purchase, and are often the only thing published in that area.  In other words, our students would greatly benefit from such an item being added to our collection.
