Donations and Donated Collections

How Your Donations Help Yukon College Students

Yukon College Library has a long, rich history of those whom have supported the Library through financial and material donations. Through the generous donations of College Staff, Students, and Community Members, the Library has grown despite its relatively low funding. Approximately half of the monographs added each year to the collection comes from monetary and material donations. Without these generous contributions, Yukon College Library would not be able to circulate over 40,000 titles it currently makes available to its patrons.

Students in particular have greatly benefited from donations because, despite having an active Interlibrary Loan program, nothing can replace being able to take books directly off the shelf when the due date for an assignment is just a few days away. In addition, searching the online cataloguecan never replace the enjoyment and opportunity for educational development that students receive when they can easily browse materials on the shelf. The academic experience of Yukon College students has been greatly enhanced by every donation made to the Yukon College Library and we are grateful to everyone who helps us deliver such an important part of the educational experience.

Disclaimer

Please note that not all donated materials are added to the YC Library collection for a variety of reasons, such as the material is too dated, doesn’t fit our mandate, the library already has several copies, or the materials have been defaced. Please keep this in mind when viewing the bibliographies, or making your decision to donate. If the Library chooses not to add donated items to the collection, the items are either given to another library needing the material or sold in the annual December Book Sale. All proceeds from the Book Sale are used to aid students.
To check our current collection for specific materials, please refer to the YCLibrary Catalogue.
